Finance Director

City of Oxford located just north of Raleigh‑Durham, this charming, small city of approx. 9100 residents is a great family friendly community. Oxford is the county seat of Granville with the City of Oxford providing a full range of services including water/sewer, public safety and the other traditional municipal services. The city operates a 40 million budget which includes general and enterprise funds.

The City has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association for many consecutive years. Oxford operates under a council‑manager form of government.

The City of Oxford is seeking a hands‑on Finance Director. This is a department head position that supervises five employees. The work of the Finance Department touches every sector of city government. Responsibilities include planning, organizing and managing all parts of the city’s accounting system. The development of city revenues, expenditures and year‑end balance forecasts along with evaluation and recommendations of internal financial policies will be an important part of the Finance Director’s work.

The Finance Director will work with the City Manager on various investments and debt management strategies. Candidates should have 5 years of experience in a municipal or county government finance office. North Carolina local government experience preferred. Candidates should have graduated from an accredited college or university with a four‑year degree in finance, accounting, public administration, business or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience and have a good knowledge of public sector accounting.

Knowledge of the NC Budget and Fiscal Control Act and Tyler Financial Software packages are highly desired. The selected candidate must be able to be bonded. The salary range for this position is $88,328 - $127,678 annually. Hiring salary DOE.
