Job Summary The Screw Machine Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes for Acme-Gridley and Davenport multi‑spindle automatic screw machines. This position serves as the technical expert for screw machine operations by designing tooling and manufacturing processes, troubleshooting complex machining issues, improving equipment performance, supporting new product introductions, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, and Production, the Screw Machine Engineer develops manufacturing processes that improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost while ensuring customer specifications are consistently achieved.
Essential Functions
Develop manufacturing processes for new and existing productsDetermine optimum cutting speeds, feeds, tooling geometry, cycle times, and machining sequences to maximize productivityDesign tooling layouts, cam configurations, tooling sequences, and machine setups for Acme‑Gridley and Davenport screw machinesDevelop standardized setup documentation and process instructionsPerform complex machine setups and obtain approval of new jobsOptimize existing machine setups to improve throughput, quality, and equipment utilizationProvide advanced technical troubleshooting for machining, tooling, and process issuesSupport production during startups and critical manufacturing challengesLead initiatives to reduce setup times, scrap, downtime, tooling costs, and cycle timesEnsure manufacturing processes consistently meet customer specifications and quality standardsPerform first‑piece inspections and support root cause investigations for quality concernsAdditional Responsibilities
Participate in Kaizen events and cost reduction initiativesSupport corrective and preventive action activitiesProvide engineering support during customer visits, audits, and new product launchesOccasional overtime and weekend work may be required to support production demands or equipment installationsPerform other duties as assignedMaintain LOTO proceduresQualifications
An associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical/manufacturing engineering is preferredMinimum of 8‑10 years of hands‑on experience in the setup, operation, and engineering of Acme‑Gridley and Davenport screw machinesProcess improvement skillsStrong ability to read and interpret blueprints, and an in‑depth understanding of cams, gears, and mechanical gearingProficiency in grinding and setting form tools, shave tools, drills, and cutoffsSolid understanding of shop mathematics, decimals, fractions, and metric conversionsProficient with the use of Solid Works or similar Engineering Design software for the purpose of documenting electro‑mechanical system designs#J-18808-Ljbffr
