Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Research and Analytics, the Data Research Analyst works as part of a dynamic team within Enrollment Management and Student Success (EMSS) to supply coordinated, actionable data and information to support data‑informed decision making. The role collaborates with leaders across the division to learn business goals, extract appropriate information from student information systems, create visualizations, maintain reports, and conduct analytic and statistical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create user‑friendly reports and data visualizations to support university functions such as admissions, student records maintenance, and evaluation of student success initiatives.
  • Extract, manipulate, and combine data from primary and secondary sources using technologies such as Workday Reporting, ETL, SQL, WQL, Tableau Prep, and similar products.
  • Manage data collection, storage, reporting, and analysis practices to evaluate goals and assess outcomes of Enrollment Management and Student Success units.
  • Provide support for ongoing reports using research and evaluation methods and data collection techniques.
  • Analyze and interpret trends and patterns in complex data sets using advanced statistical techniques.
  • Monitor, assess, and develop comprehensive reports on the impact of targeted interventions.
  • Understand, validate, and test data and reports received from other units.
  • Enhance skill set with data analytics tools and methods and learn new software as needed.
  • Document office data policies and procedures.
  • Produce ad‑hoc and recurring deliverables on time and with high quality.
  • Represent the university at relevant events with external constituents, professional associations, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Successfully manage multiple projects with complex needs and varying timelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or an Associate's Degree and 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Background in SQL or other programming skills necessary for data extraction and maintenance.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to build visual dashboards and reports to accurately express key information to users.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degrees in Data Science, Information Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Social Science Research Methods, Administration, or related field.
  • Experience with direct source data extraction via SQL, ETL, or related programming languages.
  • Experience in blending and conducting analytics across multiple data sources.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Experience with higher education data and business cycles.
  • Experience in advanced statistical analyses and data analytic operations beyond reporting.
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages (R, SPSS, SAS, STATA, etc.) for analyzing quantitative datasets.
  • Ability to represent the division and Miami University in professional settings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to learn new software and continuously acquire new competencies.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
