The Assistant Director (Asst. Dir.) of the Office of Community Standards assists the Associate Director in daily operations and serves as a university hearing officer, reviewing, investigating, adjudicating, and managing conduct cases. Additional responsibilities include administering hearing boards, facilitating alternative resolution processes, coordinating and facilitating programming and annual training for students, campus partners, and hearing officers, creating and assessing annual learning outcomes and program goals, preparing and distributing statistical reports, and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Serve as a University hearing officer by reviewing, investigating, adjudicating, and managing conduct cases.
- Coordinate and facilitate alternative resolution processes.
- Advise students on rights and responsibilities within the conduct process, providing clear and transparent communication.
- Manage a high volume of cases simultaneously, meeting all deadlines for notice, hearings, and appeals in accordance with due process.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare statistical reports related to student conduct.
- Represent the Office of Community Standards at divisional and institutional meetings, events, and functions when assigned.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and assessing annual learning outcomes and program goals.
- Collaborate on periodic review and revision of the Student Code of Conduct and office protocols to ensure alignment with emerging case law, legislative changes, and institutional values.
- Partner with the Associate Director and Director to coordinate and facilitate programming and annual training for students, campus partners, and hearing officers.
- Support ongoing education around student conduct policies and processes.
- Participate in required professional development training and proactively maintain relevant professional certifications.
- Ensure all work complies with state and federal laws, University policy, and best practices.
- Uphold impartiality, fairness, and sensitivity to all parties throughout the conduct process.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Earned bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution.
- 1 year of full‑time experience or two years of graduate assistant experience related to student conduct, case management, and/or accountability.
- Earned master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field, conferred by the position start date.
- Demonstrated technological knowledge and computer literacy.
- Knowledge of current issues in student conduct, applicable legal and compliance issues, and best practices.
- Commitment to student‑centered practice.
- Excellent administrative, time‑management, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to high ethical practice and discretion with sensitive, confidential information.
- Professional judgment and measured decision‑making.
- Conflict de‑escalation skills and ability to maintain composure with distressed individuals.
- Experience with Maxient Software.
- Assessment skills: ability to analyze, summarize, and present data/results.
- Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Collaboration with diverse stakeholders (students, faculty, staff, community agencies).
- Understanding and application of human and student development theories.
- Crisis management and emergency response skills, including ethical high‑pressure decision‑making.
This 12‑month, 100% time, on‑campus, annually renewable position provides salary and benefits. A criminal background check is required. All campuses are smoke‑ and tobacco‑free.
