Job Title:

Male Support Worker

Responsible to:
Directly accountable to and taking direction from the employer and the employer’s representative (Mum & Dad)

Hours:

12 hours per week

Hourly Rate of Pay: £14.30 per hour (Monday – Friday)
£18.59 per hour (Saturday - Sunday)

Based at:
Employer’s own home in Oxford and out in the local community.

Job Purpose

To work one to one with a young boy (11 years old) with Autism, ADHD and global development delay. The child lives in his family home with his parents. The purpose is to build a trusting professional relationship with the young gentleman. To support him in developing confidence in social settings and to develop independence, promoting a fulfilling quality of life.

The young gentleman enjoys food, cooking, art, going to the park and day trips out. The candidate must be patient, motivational, cheerful, relaxed and calm. It is essential the candidate has experience with working with children with autism and ADHD and to learn the child’s triggers and what makes him sad / happy. The young child will need support and motivation to go out for the day, it will be part of your role to encourage and support him to get out and to take part in activities with him.

Essential the candidate can drive.

Main duties
  • To support the child to access places of interest
  • Transport him to and from home to places of interest
  • Help him to make independent choices
  • Support him with life skills and social skills
  • Be a friendly companion to the child and encourage and support him with his interests
  • Ensure his safety in public spaces e.g. road crossing
  • Report any issues to the child’s parents
  • Perform any other duties as may reasonably be required
Personal Specification
  • Have experience of working with vulnerable children
  • Must drive and have access to own car
  • Flexible with hours and times you can work
  • Be patient and supportive
  • Be friendly and outgoing
  • Be honest, reliable and trustworthy
  • Be respectful of the employer’s dignity at all times
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to undergo any training highlighted by the employer
  • Have some knowledge and understanding of risks
  • Have an awareness and knowledge of equal opportunities
  • Resilience and awareness of triggers in managing behaviours that challenge

This post is subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check at the employer's request prior to commencing employment.
The offer will be made subject to satisfactory references.
The post carries a 3 month’s probationary period.
