We’re looking for experienced Senior Research Nurses / Practitioners to join the Oxford Vaccine Group (OVG), part of the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Oxford. These are senior, leadership-focused roles offering the opportunity to oversee and deliver complex, high-profile vaccine clinical trials within a globally recognised research centre.

Location: Oxford Vaccine Group, Centre for Clinical Vaccinology and Tropical Medicine (CCVTM), Churchill Hospital, Oxford

Contract type:

  • Two fixed-term posts for 12 months in the first instance
, with the potential for extension subject to the availability of further funding
  • One maternity leave cover post for 12 months
, until March 2027 or until the return of the substantive postholder
    , whichever is sooner
About the Role

The Oxford Vaccine Group, led by Professor Sir Andrew Pollard
, is internationally recognised for the design and delivery of large-scale vaccine clinical trials that inform global health policy. As Senior Research Nurse/Practitioner, you will play a key leadership role within OVG’s clinical operations, working closely with the senior management team to ensure the safe, effective, and timely delivery of multiple UK clinical trials.

You will have day-to-day responsibility for overseeing trial delivery across a broad portfolio of studies, including line management of research nurses (Grades 6 and
7) and clinical research practitioners. You will coordinate clinical teams, ensure staff are appropriately trained and supported, and provide expert input into study design, protocol development, and essential trial documentation.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with Clinical Trials Units (CTUs), investigators, and external partners to manage trial set-up, delivery, monitoring, and close-out. You may also contribute to workforce planning and budgeting, represent OVG at internal and external clinical trial forums, and actively support research staff to engage in dissemination and publication activity.

About You

You will bring extensive experience working within a UKCRC-registered Clinical Trials Unit
, with demonstrable oversight of multiple clinical trials across the full study lifecycle. You will have an in-depth, up-to-date understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and regulatory and governance requirements, along with proven experience of line management and operational leadership.

You will be highly organised, confident in decision-making, and comfortable managing complex workloads in a fast-paced research environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Clinical registration (e.g. registered nurse), an appreciation of specifics of delivering vaccine trials, and degree-level education are desirable but not essential.
