Role Overview WE are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Manager to support our work with EKFB on one of the UK’s largest and most complex infrastructure programmes. The role will be responsible for leading environmental management activities across the G2S section, ensuring compliance with HS2 requirements, relevant legislation, and best‑practice environmental standards. The successful candidate will drive environmental performance, provide subject‑matter expertise, and work collaboratively with engineering, construction, and supply chain partners.
Key Responsibilities Lead environmental management activities across designated EKFB work packages within the G2S section.
Ensure all works comply with HS2’s environmental requirements, the Environmental
Minimum Requirements (EMRs), and relevant UK regulatory frameworks.
Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and support to environmental teams and delivery partners.
Develop, review, and implement environmental management plans, procedures, and mitigation strategies.
Oversee environmental risk assessments and ensure suitable controls are identified and implemented.
Engage with regulators, local authorities, and stakeholders where required.
Monitor contractor compliance and performance, identifying opportunities for continual improvement.
Prepare high‑quality reports, dashboards, permit documentation, and assurance evidence.
Work closely with engineering and construction teams to embed environmental considerations into project planning and delivery.
Key Skills & Experience Essential:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in environmental management on major infrastructure, construction, or linear project environments.
Strong understanding of the regulatory and legislative framework relevant to HS2, including:
Environmental
Minimum Requirements (EMRs)
Code of Construction Practice (CoCP)
Environmental permitting requirements
Relevant UK environmental legislation
Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) or full membership of an appropriate professional institution (e.g., CIEEM, IEMA, CIWEM, Landscape Institute).Experience in one or more of the following environmental disciplines:
Landscape and visual impact
Noise and vibration mitigation
Water Framework Directive / water management
Ecology and habitat management
Soil management and agricultural land considerations
Demonstrable experience engaging with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
Strong reporting, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
Desirable Skills Previous experience working on HS2 or similar major UK infrastructure programmes.
Knowledge of construction methodologies and environmental integration.
Experience leading teams or mentoring junior environmental professionals.
Understanding of environmental assurance processes and reporting frameworks.
