Public & Patient Research Engagement Coordinator

This role is based in the Radcliffe Department of Medicine and the role reports to Professor James Chalmers. (Rhodes Professor of Experimental Therapeutics and Clinical Pharmacology).

Prof. James Chalmers at the University of Oxford specialises in translational and clinical research on respiratory diseases, including bronchiectasis, COPD and pneumonia, with a focus on the development of new treatments through clinical trials and laboratory research.

As a Public and Patient Research Engagement coordinator, you will play a key role in disseminating scientific work to the wider public and to patient organisations. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of researchers, medical professionals, study coordinators and collaborators on projects with direct patient impact. You will be responsible for working with the European Lung Foundation, and other organisations to develop and perform research studies and activities involving patients.

Your primary responsibility will be the EMBARC project – an international collaborative project working to develop new treatments for bronchiectasis. You will be responsible for generating engaging content for the EMBARC website at , managing related social media accounts, and helping to coordinate events such as the annual bronchiectasis patient conference (Bronchiectasis Patient Conference 2026 - European Lung Foundation) and activities for world bronchiectasis day.

This post is full-time and fixed term for 2 years.

• A BSc in a relevant discipline
• Demonstrable experience working with and communicating with patients, the public, charitable stakeholders and/or industry.
• Strong applied knowledge of research methods and quantitative data so that you can communicate research data in an informed way.
• Demonstrable excellent communication skills including the ability to speak in public, with small groups and to lead discussions with stakeholders where required.
• Proven ability to generate high quality dissemination materials such as figures, infographics, tables, slides and other materials to communicate science to a wide audience in an accessible way
• Experience in professional dissemination of information on social media
• Experience of working in a team and ability to take a lead where required and provide a supporting role where required.
