If you enjoy hands-on work, problem-solving, and keeping busy environments running smoothly, this is a fantastic opportunity to support the day-to-day maintenance of laboratory and building services at our client's site in Oxford.
What you'll be doing:- Assist with day-to-day maintenance, repairs and servicing across laboratory and building environments
- Support the provision, installation and setup of research equipment, liaising with academic and technical colleagues as needed
- Carry out planned maintenance on plant and equipment
- Help with refurbishment and fit-out activities in buildings, supporting construction tasks as required
- Maintain and repair building fabric, including redecoration, plumbing, carpentry, and upkeep of grounds and external services
- Install, move and modify laboratory and office furniture; assist with service installation and modifications (mechanical, electrical and air handling systems such as compressed air, gases, water, air-conditioning, extraction systems and vacuum pipe work)
- Support the distribution of cryogens and bottled laboratory gases as required (including Dry Ice, Liquid Nitrogen and bottled lab gases)
- Dispose of surplus equipment and materials (including hazardous chemical and other waste) in line with procedures
- Contribute to emergency readiness by understanding the operation of fire and security alarms and providing assistance when required
- Use P-Mac Facilities Management software to record works, maintenance activity and parts used
- Maintain building material and laboratory consumables stock (e.g. dry ice and compressed gas cylinders), including timely ordering from suppliers
- Follow statutory regulations relevant to laboratory services activity, ensuring safe working practices at all times
- Basic computer literacy, with the ability to operate email and Word, and navigate basic applications (training available internally for tools such as Excel and Outlook)
- Strong DIY skills-comfortable switching between small tasks (like light bulb changes) and supporting smaller building projects confidently
- Confidence using mechanical engineering and woodworking hand tools
- A clear understanding of Health and Safety at Work principles
- An organised approach to work, with the ability to prioritise in a busy environment
- A flexible, service-orientated mindset-able to cover for others and support staff, students and visitors
- Good physical fitness for working around a large, multi-level building, including moving items such as furniture, equipment and gas cylinders
- Ability to work both unaccompanied and as part of a team
Good written and oral communication skills
This is a full-time, on-site role in the centre of Oxford with no parking so you will need to use Park & Ride or direct bus, walk or cycle. Hours are 36.5 hours, Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm but finish at 3pm on a Friday (No on call) 28 days Holiday + Xmas Shut Down + 8 Bank Holidays
