Role Description The Fire and Security Engineer role at BWS Group is an on-site position based in Swindon. The engineer will install, commission, maintain, and repair fire alarm, CCTV, access control, and intruder alarm systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and customer specifications. Day-to-day tasks include diagnosing technical faults, completing service reports, performing routine inspections, and responding to call-outs as required.
The role also involves liaising with clients on-site, providing clear explanations of work carried out, and advising on system improvements. The engineer will work closely with the wider engineering team, follow health and safety procedures, and support continuous improvement of installation and service practices.
Qualifications
- Experience installing, commissioning, servicing, and fault-finding fire alarm, intruder alarm, CCTV, and access control systems.
- Strong knowledge of relevant standards and regulations (e.g., BS 5839, BS EN 50131) and safe working practices.
- Proficiency with tools, test equipment, and diagnostic devices used in fire and security engineering.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with clients and colleagues, with clear report writing and documentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently on-site, manage time efficiently, and prioritize tasks in a field-based environment.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel locally for installations, services, and call-outs.
- Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in electrical, electronic, or fire and security engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
- Comfort with basic IT systems for configuring networked devices, updating software, and completing electronic job records.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and keeping up to date with new fire and security technologies.
