Position: Para educator (substitute)

Substitute/Temporary Para educator General Education – $19.95/hour

Typical shifts are 2‑5.75 hours each day between 7:30 am and 3:00 pm.

Responsibilities
  • Reinforce instruction to individuals or small groups of students as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist in the supervision of students with specialized needs in the classroom, outdoor playground, cafeteria, and other district school location areas.
  • Prepare materials for classroom and instructional use; administer, correct, and record test results; maintain student profiles and other requested records; perform a variety of clerical duties.
  • Assist the teacher in establishing and maintaining a safe and sanitary environment; may pick up lunches and assist with feeding of children.
  • Assist in lifting pupils in and out of wheelchairs, braces and other orthopedic equipment in a safe manner.
  • Assist in positioning pupils and in rendering various personal‑care services such as toileting, diapering, dressing, undressing, bathing, and grooming as needed.
  • Assist children in and out of buses; accompany or assist children to and from school buses and to activities on the school site.
  • Provide a supportive learning environment, set behavior limits, and apply positive behavior techniques as directed.
  • Perform other duties, such as emergency care for physically handicapped children, as trained.
  • Observe and control the behavior of assigned child in individual and group settings; report concerns to the teacher or site.
  • Confer with the teacher or site administrator on special issues of the assigned child as needed.
  • For bilingual positions, translate written materials from English to a second language and vice versa; interpret communication between staff and non‑English‑speaking students/parents.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Substitute/Temporary Para educator Special Education – $24.23/hour
  • Reinforce instruction for a classroom, and individual or small groups of students as directed by the teacher.
  • Follow and implement associated treatment plans and protocols in accordance with students’ IEP goals and objectives.
  • Assist students with academic skills and reinforce instruction in reading, spelling, math, and social studies.
  • Provide services to students with specialized needs; assist with personal and health care, including hygiene and other needs.
  • Observe and control behavior of students inside or outside the classroom according to approved procedures; report progress and behavior to the teacher; provide emotional support and guidance.
  • Assist in lifting pupils in and out of wheelchairs, braces, and other orthopedic equipment; render personal‑care services such as toileting, diapering, dressing, bathing, and grooming.
  • Assist children in and out of buses; accompany or assist to and from school buses and activities.
  • Perform emergency care for physically handicapped children (e.g., suctioning, tube feeding, catheterization, colostomy care, oxygen administration) as trained.
  • Assist teachers in using instructional software and related peripherals.
  • Prepare materials for classroom use; supply work areas, displays, exhibits; operate educational equipment.
  • Consult with teachers on programs and materials to meet students’ needs.
  • Maintain health and safety of students, conduct clean‑up of work sites.
  • Perform clerical duties, including preparing instructional materials, administering tests, taking roll, and maintaining confidential student records.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly learning environment.
  • If assigned to the Infant Program, interpret for non‑English‑speaking parents/family members.
  • Translate written materials between English and a second language; interpret communication for staff, students, and parents.
  • Perform CPR and First Aid as required.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Entrance Qualifications
