Lecturer AY - Medical Surgical Nursing

About the Position

Plan, develop, and teach pre‑licensure Nursing Science classes in clinical settings and the campus skills lab. Perform associated lecturer duties including maintaining accurate student records, coordinating clinical instruction with faculty, coordinating student experiences with clinical personnel, maintaining communication between the University and clinical agencies, participation in curriculum development and accreditation activities, and remaining current in subject matter and teaching techniques through clinical experience and professional development.

Minimum

Degree Requirements

A Master’s degree in nursing or higher from an accredited institution, including courses in nursing education or administration.

Required Qualifications
  • Leadership in teaching baccalaureate‑level nursing and BRN content.
  • Teaching and student learning outcomes evaluation experience.
  • Current, active California RN license.
  • At least one year of teaching experience related to medical‑surgical nursing or a course that includes practice in teaching nursing.
  • At least two years of continuous full‑time RN direct patient‑care practice, with at least one year within the last three years (or eligibility for Board of Registered Nurses approval to teach medical‑surgical nursing).

As a condition of employment, the position requires a background check. The holder is a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083.

Applicants should demonstrate commitment to working with and engaging a diverse student population and evidence of successful mentorship of minoritized students, with a special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to teach in medical‑surgical nursing areas such as critical care, emergency room, telemetry, medical and surgical units, and outpatient settings.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
  • Flexibility in teaching assignments.
  • Experience with multiple teaching modalities in a multicultural learner population.
  • Willingness to teach on weekends, evenings and/or nights.
Responsibilities

Teach courses and hold office hours. Assignments may include day, evening, night, and weekend classes or clinical labs.

Compensation

Placement into a salary range based on qualifications and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
