About the ProgramThe Department of Anthropology at CSU Channel Islands imparts students with broad anthropological knowledge aimed at developing their critical thinking skills, allowing them to address contemporary issues and engage in multiple professional and academic careers. Faculty collaborate with regional institutions and agencies, including National and State Parks, public schools, and non‑profit organizations, providing diverse learning opportunities for students.
About the PositionThe Department of Anthropology seeks qualified applicants to its lecturer faculty pool. Positions may become available to teach undergraduate lecture, laboratory, or field courses in any subfield of anthropology, with particular interest in archeology, bioanthropology, and sociocultural anthropology. Course assignments may include introductory or upper‑division courses, depending on program needs.
Minimum Degree RequirementsMaster’s degree in Anthropology with demonstrated teaching experience.
Required Qualifications- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the college or university level.
- Commitment to student‑centered, inclusive pedagogy that supports diverse learners.
- Ability to ensure experiential learning opportunities are provided to students both within and outside the classroom.
- Effective engagement with a broad student population and provision of mentorship that supports student academic success.
- Ph.D. in Anthropology.
- Experience teaching laboratory or field‑based environmental science courses.
- Demonstrated commitment to community engagement, experiential learning, and equity in higher education.
- Extensive field experience in anthropological work.
- Engagement of students in experiential learning within and outside the classroom.
Lecturer faculty are responsible for preparing course materials, delivering engaging instruction, assessing student learning, and supporting CSUCI’s mission of integrative, experiential, and inclusive education.

California State University Lecturer Salary (Academic Year) schedules can be found at ... Placement into a salary range is based on qualifications and experience. Initial assignments are typically at the bottom third of the salary range. The monthly base salary for full‑time (15 units per semester) is prorated to the number of units worked and paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
