Job Title: Senior Network Engineer (Lead-Level)

Location: Oxnard, California

Role Overview

Join a mission-driven public-sector organization supporting more than 200,000 residents through reliable, secure, and modern technology services. As a Senior Network Engineer (Lead-Level), you'll take ownership of a complex, enterprise-scale network environment that supports essential public services, public safety operations, and critical business systems across a large, multi-site infrastructure.

This is a hands-on technical leadership opportunity for an experienced network engineer who wants to modernize infrastructure rather than simply maintain it. You'll lead network architecture, security, reliability, and long-term infrastructure planning while introducing best practices, mentoring teammates, and driving meaningful modernization initiatives with strong executive support.

If you're looking for an opportunity where your technical expertise directly impacts the community and your architectural decisions shape the future of a large enterprise network, this is an exceptional opportunity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead network operations across firewalls, switching, wireless infrastructure, and ISP connectivity while ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
  • Design and implement improvements across routing, segmentation, resiliency, and enterprise connectivity.
  • Troubleshoot complex network issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.
  • Manage data center networking, structured cabling, power distribution, and environmental infrastructure.
  • Administer enterprise DNS, DHCP, and WINS services supporting critical business operations.
  • Manage the lifecycle of network hardware, software, firmware, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Implement and optimize network monitoring, alerting, and performance management platforms.
  • Partner with Infrastructure, Security, and Operations teams to align network strategy with organizational priorities.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, operational runbooks, and support procedures.
  • Mentor junior engineers while promoting engineering best practices and continuous improvement.
Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting complex enterprise network environments.
  • Strong expertise across enterprise networking technologies spanning Layers 1-7.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise networking protocols including DHCP, STP, VTP, HSRP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, and vPC.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco Nexus, Catalyst, Firepower, Meraki, and Fortinet or Sonic Wall technologies.
  • Experience supporting VPN technologies including IPSec, SSL VPN, and SD-WAN.
  • Experience operating within structured change management, documentation, and operational governance frameworks.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
  • Technical knowledge equivalent to Cisco CCNP Enterprise, Data Center, or Security.
Preferred Experience
  • Enterprise network architecture across large, multi-site environments.
  • Public-sector, utility, education, healthcare, or other highly available enterprise environments.
  • Wireless optimization, site surveys, and large-scale wireless deployments.
  • Zero Trust networking or micro-segmentation technologies.
  • Network automation using Python, Ansible, or Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.
  • Experience with Net Flow, SNMP, Syslog, NAC, packet analysis, and network observability platforms.
  • Disaster recovery, redundancy, and enterprise failover design.
  • Advanced certifications including CCNP, CCIE, Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto PCNSE, or Meraki CMSS.
Compensation, Benefits & Perks
  • Salary Range: $114,000 - $152,000 per year
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Retirement program with employer contributions.
  • Generous paid time off, holidays, and additional leave programs.
  • 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.
  • Professional development and continuing education opportunities.
