- C-section circulation experience is required.
- Floating between Labor and Delivery and postpartum is required. Unit details include 7 Labor and Delivery beds. Additional resources include 4 triage beds and 2 overflow beds. Postpartum area consists of 27 beds with a 5-bed nursery. Approximately 3 births are recorded daily, totaling around 1545 per year. ACLS, BLS, NRP, and fetal monitoring certifications are required. The facility follows AWOHNN guidelines for staffing ratios.
Fetal Link is the fetal monitoring system utilized, integrated with the electronic medical record system Cerner. Charge nurse responsibilities are assigned to shift managers or charge nurses. Resource nurses are available for break coverage. Nurse aides assist with c-sections, deliveries, supply stocking, and patient intake. Weekend requirements include 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule. Optional call shifts are preferred for travelers, inquire during the interview.
Holidays are assigned based on permanent staff preferences, typically one major and one minor holiday. Scrub color for staff is navy. No vents are present in the unit, but respiratory therapists are available 24/7. Pharmacy services are also accessible 24/7. 12-hour shifts begin at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Candidates must possess the ability to float between Labor and Delivery and postpartum.
Postpartum nurses do not necessarily need Labor and Delivery experience but may assist in other areas. Common patient diagnoses include high-risk deliveries across various gestational ages, including substance abuse withdrawal cases. The unit serves a diverse population, including many patients requiring specialized care. Candidates must have 2-3 years of experience, with at least one prior travel contract preferred. Candidates may be subject to shift cancellations as per facility policies.
Cerner is the charting system utilized in this position. A BSN is not required for this role. This position is in an acute care setting.
