Chief Engineer
We are seeking a Chief Engineer for a hands-on role supporting IT operations and engineering enhancements. This position requires a highly capable engineer to work with program management and the client to define and implement solutions, develop roadmaps, and serve as the top-level technical escalation point. The role involves contributing to daily technical operations while also providing strategic direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the top-level escalation point for the team, resolving approximately 90% of issues independently.
- Collaborate with program team members and the client to gather requirements and design technical solutions.
- Contribute directly to day-to-day technical issues and operations, including troubleshooting across the full stack (application, server, database, web front-end).
- Develop a future-state technical roadmap for the client and program, including technical reviews of engineering and architectural designs.
- Provide hands-on engineering support for application development, installation, configuration, and performance tuning.
- Act as the primary point of contact with the Tier 3 engineering team on complex design and architectural decisions.
- Ensure operational discipline by enforcing processes and maintaining documentation.
- Mentor and coach technical team members and conduct technical interviews for key positions.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Master's Degree and 12 years of applicable experience; OR
- Bachelor's Degree and 16 years of applicable experience; OR
- 20 years of applicable experience with no degree.
Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience in a Chief Engineer role.
- Hands-on technical skills with a preference for Power Builder-focused applications.
- Ability to troubleshoot across the full stack and connect application issues to underlying infrastructure problems.
- Understanding of how applications function end-to-end, including dependencies across infrastructure.
- Knowledge of technologies and capabilities in the Federal Government space, such as Networking, Cloud, Cybersecurity, and Windows.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be a United States Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., AWS/Azure/GCP Architect, TOGAF, CISSP, ITIL, SAFe).
- Experience leading enterprise modernization initiatives, including cloud migration, digital transformation, and Dev Sec Ops .
- Familiarity with performing technology analysis of alternatives, technical risk assessments, and trade-off analysis.
- Advanced technical certifications.
