Overview

JANUS Research Group is seeking an experienced Aviation Military Analyst with extensive expertise in Army cargo helicopter operations, aviation capabilities development, and combat aviation analysis. This position provides subject matter expertise supporting Army Aviation capability development, operational analysis, requirements development, and modernization initiatives. The selected candidate will support aviation studies, develop operational concepts, evaluate emerging technologies, and provide analytical products to inform Army Aviation decision‑making.

Responsibilities
  • Provide subject matter expertise on Army cargo helicopter operations, doctrine, and tactical employment.
  • Conduct operational analyses supporting Army Aviation capability development and modernization initiatives.
  • Develop white papers, concept papers, operational analyses, requirements documents, operational views, and other technical products supporting government objectives.
  • Analyze the tactical employment of Army cargo helicopter formations and provide recommendations to support future operational capabilities.
  • Participate in and facilitate Joint Working Groups, Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), and other collaborative planning efforts.
  • Lead or support aviation studies focused on capability development, force modernization, and technology integration.
  • Evaluate emerging aviation technologies and recommend improvements to operational capability and mission effectiveness.
  • Support requirements development activities, including capability‑based assessments and Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) documentation.
  • Develop and present analytical findings and recommendations to senior military and government leadership.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to analytical teams supporting aviation capability development efforts.
  • Independently develop high‑quality written products requiring minimal revisions while meeting established program deadlines.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 12 years of Army Aviation flight or combat cargo helicopter operations experience
    .
  • Must be a Rated Army Aviator or Rated Army Aircrew Member
    .
  • Experience serving as an Instructor Pilot (IP) or Flight Engineer in Army cargo helicopter formations.
  • Operational experience in current Army tactical cargo aircraft fielded within Army aviation units.
  • Completion of senior military leader development equivalent to one or more of the following:
    • Senior Leader Course (SLC)
    • Master Leader Course (MLC)
    • Command and General Staff College/Intermediate Level Education (CGSC/ILE)
    • Warrant Officer Senior Staff Course
    • Equivalent military or civilian leadership development program
  • Senior or Master Army Aviator Badge or Senior or Master Army Aircrew Badge required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting combat or capability development initiatives.
  • Experience in Army Aviation flight standardization supporting organizations ranging from approximately 35 to 600 personnel.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, executing, and facilitating Joint Working Groups.
  • Experience leading aviation studies involving capability development and technology evaluation.
  • Demonstrated expertise analyzing the tactical employment of Army cargo helicopter operations.
  • Experience leading teams responsible for authoring Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC) approved JCIDS documentation.
  • Direct participation in the Army Aviation Operations Capability‑Based Assessment (CBA).
  • Operational combat experience supporting Army cargo aviation missions.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently produce graduate‑level written products including:
    • White papers
    • Concept papers
    • Requirements documents
    • Operational views
    • Technical analyses
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to brief senior government and military leadership.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance
