Position SummaryPersonnel assigned as Human Factors Risk Management Specialist shall perform under the operational and professional guidance of a licensed SERE Psychologist. Duties and Prohibitions. The Risk Management Specialists are authorized to administer and score psychological tests in individual and group settings. Contractor duties are IAW U.S. Army SERE School SOPs and respective POI content.
Duties and Responsibilities- Participating in the psychological monitoring of all pre- and post-academic laboratory exercises to ensure that the students are within acceptable levels of stress inoculation associated with the SERE training course at Ft Rucker, AL
- Providing crisis interventions to students on an as-needed basis and making resultant psychological-based recommendations to oversight personnel regarding students’ capabilities to safely continue training, including what, if any, modifications might be needed to ensure student success
- Conducting group psychological debriefs of students following pre- and post-academic laboratory exercises
- Providing consultation to students in a one-on-one capacity during “office hours” at the approximate midpoint of the course to address any concerns regarding their training
- Administering and scoring psychological tests in individual and group settings in support of initial risk assessments of instructors and government cadre
- Participating in the presentation of Human Factors Annual Training to instructors and government cadre
- Conducting behavioral health history review of incoming students’ medical records
- Providing administrative support for psychologists who participate in M6 identifier training following their completion of the SERE training course
- Periodically observing Academic role-playing labs in the classroom
- Assisting in psychological research data collection and data entry
- Actively participating in continuing education and training, to include:
- Completing an established training plan
- Participating in an ongoing self-study course (comprised of a SERE Psychology Reading List)
- Participating in quarterly Human Factors section trainings, which include activities such as:
- Team building exercises and presenting relevant psychological or scientific journal articles’ findings and leading discussions on those topics
- Attending a JPRA-sponsored SERE Psychology Working Group
- Attending site visits to other DoD SERE schools.
Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in psychology or a related field, or commensurate level of training (e.g., military mental health technician, psychiatric technician, or mental health program assistant)
- At least 1 year of experience working in a behavioral health setting or capacity
- Must be a graduate of a SERE Level C program, or be able to complete the course
- Be team-oriented
- Be able to work shift-work/variable hours, including weekends and holidays, in austere training environments
- Must have or be able to obtain a SECRET Security Clearance
- Must be able to access installation
- Computer literacy with experience in Microsoft 360 (Word, Teams, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, etc.)
- US citizen or ability to legally work in the US
- Present a professional and credible image at all times
- Superior management and communication skills
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
