Military and Family Life Counselor – School (MFLC Tier
2) is responsible for delivering comprehensive Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) counseling services to children and families of military service members across military installations, DoDEA schools, community schools, youth programs, and summer camps. Candidates must be local to Fort Rucker and hold an independent level license as an LPC, LMHC, LMFT, LCSW, or equivalent.

Responsibilities
  • Provide full‑breadth CYB counseling services—including non‑medical counseling, training, health and wellness presentations, and consultation with parents, personnel, schools, and installation command—to children of all ages.
  • Assess, brief counsel, develop action plans, refer to resources, and follow up with eligible children and youth at primary and secondary sites.
  • Support staff and personnel of DoDEA and community schools, offering parent training and guidance.
  • Lead training and health‑wellness presentations, and participate in health fairs and other base activities focused on children and youth.
  • Enter counseling activity data daily via smartphone or web application, ensuring accurate reporting and confidentiality.
  • Build and maintain connections with community resources to provide appropriate linkages.
  • Remain visibly present in schools to adhere to line‑of‑sight protocols.
  • Collaborate with installation and branch points of contact (POC) to deliver services that meet facility needs.
  • Manage duty‑to‑warn and restricted reporting situations in accordance with DoD protocol, and participate in regular supervision with the Regional Supervisor/Director.
  • Respond to critical incidents and special requests from the POC, as approved by the OSD program manager.
  • Adapt schedule flexibly to address urgent requests.
  • Participate in in‑service training, quality‑improvement committees, pilot programs, and certification processes, completing required documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental‑health related field.
  • Valid, unrestricted independent counseling license from a state, District of Columbia, U.S. territory, or Commonwealth.
  • Minimum two years of post‑licensure clinical experience.
  • Intermediate‑level competency in technology and software (Microsoft Office, internet navigation, smartphone/tablet, video‑conferencing platforms).
  • Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children; response to emergent situations anywhere on a military installation or school.
  • Willingness to traverse short or long distances, navigate rugged or uneven terrain, and work outdoors in various base conditions.
  • Compliance with required immunizations and documentation of receipt.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship and fluency in English.
  • Empathy, sensitivity, and the capacity to build trusting relationships with diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Pass NACI clearance, Installation Records Check (IRC), criminal background check, and FBI fingerprints check.
  • Valid U.S. state vehicle operator’s license (unless waived); potential military vehicle permit for TDY locations.
  • Meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth, including specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology.
  • School‑assigned counselors must have prior experience working in a school setting.

Salary range: $59,922 – $100,280.
