STEM Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Minimum of a B.S. Degree in the area of instructional responsibility required.

* Alabama State Department of Education Teaching Certification in the area of instructional responsibility required.

* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment of instructional specialty to which assigned.

* Knowledge of student academic growth and development applicable to the grade level assigned.

* Knowledge of school's program of studies related to mission, goals and organization.

* Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.

* Ability to plan and implement lessons based on system and state courses of study and the needs and abilities of students.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents and peers.

* Skilled and effective in oral and written communication.

* Ability to use and manage technology including, but not limited to, e-mail, internet, Microsoft Office Programs, Google Chrome, etc.

* Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed.

* Knowledge and understand of the Board's policies and procedures. The Board's policy manual is located in the school office, library and the Tuscaloosa City Schools webpage.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Assesses student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives and student outcomes.

* Develops and implements a program of instruction that meets the individual needs and abilities of students and is consistent with system and state courses of study.

* Plans and implements a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which serve the needs and capabilities of the students.

* Manages the behavior of learners in the classroom and participates in the management of student behavior in other parts of the school.

* Communicates to students and parents (either in writing or verbally) the instructional expectations, student progress or lack of progress.

* Continually assesses student achievement and maintains appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes.

* Actively participates in and works with other school personnel in planning effective instructional goals, objectives, methods, and curriculum.

* Participates in professional growth and development activities including staff meeting, in-services and staff development activities as required or assigned.

* Ensures that the classroom and/or instructional environment are attractive, healthful, safe and generally conducive to learning.

* Ensures confidentiality of all students' records, grades, performance and all other related matters.

* Maintains a valid Alabama professional teaching certificate and is responsible for the renewal of the certificate.

* Attends work and arrives/departs work at the appropriate times as determined by the immediate supervisor.

* Takes leave time in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences in a timely manner.

* Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
