The Ozark (MO) Fire Protection District is seeking an experienced professional to join our team as the next Assistant Chief of Training. This position is a critical leadership role within the District and is responsible for overseeing and strategically directing professional development and safety programs.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Directs and develops professional development programs, manages the annual training program, and leads the hiring and promotional processes.
  • Functions as the Health and Safety Officer (HSO) and EMS Officer, manages the occupational safety and total wellness programs.
  • Ensures training and safety programs and records are aligned with best practices, ISO guidelines, NFPA standards, and state/federal mandates.
  • Manages the development, revision, and training of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Responds to major incidents in an operational command capacity, serves in the Duty Chief rotation (including nights/weekends/holidays), and assumes the role of Acting Fire Chief when assigned.
  • Manages budget components for training, safety, and EMS while assisting with short- and long-term strategic planning.
  • Collaborates across divisions with Assistant Chiefs, Battalion Chiefs, and Company Officers to achieve District goals.

Summary of Minimum Requirements

  • Associate degree (or 60 hours of college credits)
  • Ten (10) years of fire service experience
  • Five (5) years of fire service supervisory experience
  • Advanced IC S (NIMS 300/400)
  • State of Missouri Emergency Medical Technician – Basic
  • First Responder Inspector of Above
  • Successful Completion of a Fit-For-Duty Test

Note: Any required certifications or qualifications not held at the time of hire must be obtained within one (1) year of the hire date. An applicant hired into the position of Assistant Chief must reside within the Ozark Fire Protection District or within five (5) air miles of any district boundary or must be willing to relocate at the time of employment.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary:
    The anticipated hiring range for this position is $95,000 to $105,000.

    Participation in the Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System (LAGERS) at the L12 (1.75) Non-Contributory level, which is 100% employer-funded.

Selection Process

    Depending on the applicant pool, qualified candidates may be invited to participate in an assessment center and interview process.
  • Background Investigation: A thorough background check will be conducted on finalists, including criminal history, driving record, professional references, and employment verification.
  • Medical Examination & Fit-for-Duty Test: A pre-employment medical examination and successful completion of a fit-for-duty assessment.
  • Conditional Offer of Employment:
    Extended to the top candidate, contingent upon successful completion of all remaining pre-employment requirements.
