Temporary Itinerant Elementary Instrumental Music Teacher – Band & Orchestra (Grades 4–5)

Under the direction of the school principal, the Elementary Instrumental Music Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality classroom instruction in areas aligned with their credential and authorization. This position specifically focuses on Band and Orchestra instruction for fourth and fifth grade students. The teacher is expected to assess, develop, and manage a consistent music program and a positive learning environment that supports curriculum goals and fosters student achievement.

Daily instruction is aligned with California State Standards.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing engaging and developmentally appropriate instruction in both band and strings.
• Creating a safe, supportive, and structured classroom environment.
• Communicating regularly with parents regarding students' academic progress and social development.
• Supervising students during designated instructional hours and, if assigned, during before- or after-school activities.
• Planning and coordinating 2–3 performances per year to showcase student progress.
• Collaborating closely with the middle school music teacher and elementary general music teachers to ensure program continuity and alignment.
• Assisting in the planning and implementation of parent involvement activities.
• Program will potentially expand to include 3rd grade.

Requirements /

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. (Masters Degree desirable)
• Must possess and maintain a valid California teaching credential with appropriate authorization to teach instrumental music, including band and strings.
• Demonstrated experience in orchestral and band pedagogy is highly desired.
• CLAD authorization or English Learner certification.
• Successful experience teaching in grades K-12 is recommended.
• Valid CA Driver's License.
• Elementary instrumental music currently includes grades four and five. This position requires teaching at both PGUSD elementary schools located 1.1 miles apart.
