Nurse Practitioner - Inpatient Diabetes Services (Per diem

Overview

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an expert in diabetes care. The NP is responsible for the delivery of diabetes care and education that involves compliance with evidence-based clinical standards, outcomes measurement (tracking, analysis, and reporting of clinical, financial, and satisfaction outcomes) and process design (leading initiatives to facilitate practice-based and organizational change). As a member of the glycemic management team, the NP provides direct patient care in the inpatient setting, through implementation of standardized procedures and works collaboratively with the medical team to establish priorities and to assess solutions for patients to ensure they receive the best care possible.

The NP functions under general Nurse Practitioner Standardized Procedures approved by the Committee on Advanced Practice Providers (CAPP) and reports to the Diabetes Services Program Manager.

• Provide direct patient care in the inpatient setting within glycemic management.
• Implement standardized procedures and lead initiatives to facilitate practice-based and organizational change.
• Collaborate with the medical team to establish priorities and assess solutions for patient care.
• Maintain compliance with Nurse Practitioner Standardized Procedures and guidelines.
• Track, analyze, and report clinical, financial, and satisfaction outcomes.

• Education:
  
  Master’s degree in nursing required (exception: NP qualified or certified as an NP in California or any other state prior to January 1, 2008).
• Experience:
  
  Clinical background in diabetes management; minimum of 2 years acute care hospital experience preferred; experience in managing insulin pumps preferred;
  Spanish fluency preferred.
• Licensure/
  
  Certifications:
  
  California Board of Registered Nursing licensure and authorization as an NP; national certification for NPs; furnishing license issued by the BRN;
  American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS; CDCES credential and BC-ADM preferred upon hire and must be completed within 24 months from hire date; current valid driver’s license.

  Work Hours:
  
  Per diem (10-hour shifts). Varied days and weekends as needed. No set guaranteed hours in a two-week pay period. This is not a full- or part-time position.
• Position Type:
  Per Diem
• Pay Range: $100.73 to $134.72 per hour (based on years of applicable experience).
• Shift Differentials:
  Evening $5.41 per hour;
  Night $8.11 per hour.
