OSP Construction Project Engineer
Lumos is seeking a full‑time construction engineer with experience in telecom outside‑plant (OSP) projects. The role involves building relationships with communities, contractor partners, and local agencies to manage the installation of our fiber network. It requires frequent on‑site presence within the assigned market and oversight of line crews, splicers, and subcontractor crews to ensure safe, on‑time, and budget‑conscious project completion.

Essential Functions- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and partners to manage OSP crews’ activity, ensuring work is safe, on time, and within budget.
- Track crew progress, report to internal teams, and provide leadership with real‑time job updates.
- Partner with OSP contractor crews to promote a safety culture at worksites.
- Engage with municipalities, utilities, and community members to address neighborhood concerns.
- Ensure OSP subcontractor crews meet NESC code for aerial construction.
- Comply with all safety regulations to maintain a successful safety record.
- Support internal teams with materials forecasting, scheduling, and permitting.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including departmental and cross‑functional projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, relationship‑building, and influencing skills.
- Proven project management experience with multiple OSP worksites and concurrent goals.
- Solid experience with computer and peripheral equipment, and software such as Smart Sheets, Sitetracker, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word);
Visio and PowerPoint are helpful. - Strong knowledge of OSHA rules, site safety, NESC requirements, and related federal and local telecom regulations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic, prompt reporting, and a sense of urgency for deadlines and competing priorities.
- At least 5 years of technical experience in OSP engineering, construction, or operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Valid, fully unencumbered driver’s license required.
- Proactive, independent, and able to take initiative to stay on task and on target.
- Fiber or telecom industry experience essential.
- Frequent walking, standing, and exposure to outdoor construction worksites.
- Must use appropriate clothing and footwear for safety.
- Frequent sedentary periods using a computer and peripherals.
- Near‑constant use of sight, speech, hearing, comprehension, and reasoning.
