Manager – Civil Position Summary

The Manager – Civil is responsible for leading and managing all civil engineering, structural engineering, and infrastructure activities associated with the development, construction, expansion, and modernization of Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) Plants, Integrated Steel Plants, and other heavy industrial facilities.

This role oversees civil and structural engineering design reviews, quality assurance, safety compliance, project scheduling, contractor performance, and cost control to ensure successful project delivery. The position serves as a key member of the project execution team and works closely with engineering consultants, operations teams, regulatory agencies, EPC contractors, and corporate stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, from concept development through commissioning and handover.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, extensive heavy industrial construction experience, and a proven record of delivering large-scale steel, mining, and metals projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Job Responsibilities Civil & Structural Engineering Design Review
  • Review and validate civil, structural, and infrastructure engineering designs prepared by consultants and EPC contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, applicable codes, and client requirements.
  • Evaluate engineering drawings, calculations, technical reports, and design modifications.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering interfaces between civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and process disciplines.
  • Support value engineering initiatives to optimize project cost, constructability, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee site development activities, civil construction work, structural fabrication, and erection activities as required.
Industrial Buildings & Plant Foundations
  • Supervise construction of industrial buildings, workshops, warehouses, administrative facilities, control rooms, substations, and process structures.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of foundations supporting:
    • Furnaces
    • Reactors
    • Conveyors
    • Crushers
    • Material Handling Systems
    • Mills
    • Associated Process Equipment
  • Coordinate civil interfaces for plant installations and equipment erection activities.
  • Verify structural adequacy and constructability of industrial facilities.
Contractor Management
  • Manage EPC contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and construction service providers.
  • Review contractor schedules, manpower plans, and resource allocations.
  • Conduct progress reviews and contractor performance evaluations.
  • Resolve contractual, technical, and execution‑related issues.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
Budget & Cost Control
  • Support development and management of civil construction budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor project expenditures and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
  • Review contractor invoices, change orders, variation requests, and claims.
  • Participate in cost analysis and project financial reviews.
  • Support project leadership in maintaining cost control throughout execution.
Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC)
  • Ensure implementation of approved QA/QC procedures and inspection plans.
  • Monitor construction quality and compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Review inspection reports, material testing results, and quality documentation.
  • Coordinate corrective actions for non‑conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Ensure proper documentation and retention of quality records.
Safety Compliance
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all project activities.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company standards, and site‑specific safety programs.
  • Participate in:
    • Safety Audits
    • Risk Assessments
    • Toolbox Talks
    • Incident Investigations
  • Monitor contractor safety performance and corrective action implementation.
  • Support achievement of project safety goals and zero‑incident objectives.
Project Scheduling & Coordination
  • Coordinate civil and structural engineering activities with project planning teams.
  • Monitor project schedules and identify risks impacting project delivery.
