Salary: Starting at $46,500 (commensurate with experience)
Reports to: Building Principal
- Fulfills classroom duties while following a fast-tracked educational route to qualifying for and obtaining a VDOE teaching license within 1 year.
- Plans and delivers an instructional programto students,consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and promotes student learning, while managing student behavior.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Manages the behavior of learners in an instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process.
- Ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statutes and local policies, regulations and guidelines related to public schools
- The Associate Teacher is a non-licensed employee who commits to working on the requirements for a Virginia teaching license during the one-year employment period.
- Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate subject area.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning.
- Must be willing to commit to the creation of a plan to ensure licensure requirements are completed by May 31of every year
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Must be eligible or possess a valid Collegiate Professional License from the State of Virginia.
