Location and Schedule
Paducah, KY. Monday‑Friday (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) with evenings and weekends as needed. Most weeks will exceed 40 hours.
Job SummaryExtension Agent for 4‑H Youth Development will provide leadership and management to the overall 4‑H youth development programs for McCracken County. The Agent will implement a well‑rounded program that develops youth through school and community‑based programs; recruit and train volunteers and leaders to work with youth; and utilize and/or develop councils, advisory groups, and committees to program around leadership development, community involvement, local government, community services, and other forms of community economic development.
All agents in a county will support the dissemination of useful and practical information on subjects relating to Agriculture, Family Consumer Sciences, 4‑H and Community and Rural Development as outlined in the KRS statutes 164.605 to 164.675.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and deliver program activities that promote leadership, community service, and economic development.
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers and youth leaders.
- Establish and maintain councils, advisory groups, and committees that support programmatic goals.
- Adhere to state law requirements for background checks and clearances, including a letter from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
- Communicate effectively with youth, volunteers, community partners, and the public through oral, written, and mass media channels.
- Use computer software to deliver and manage program content and data.
- None set minimum education; however, a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or higher degree in Education, Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences, Social Science, or a related field is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing with groups and individuals, and to use mass media.
- Experience planning and teaching educational programs.
- Proven leadership skills and ability to serve as a positive role model for youth.
- Clear criminal background check and letter from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services confirming no substantiated child abuse or neglect findings.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education, Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences, Social Science, or a similar field of study.
- Experience working with youth and/or in 4‑H programs.
- Previous experience as a UK Cooperative Extension intern or similar extension work.
Job‑related travel including overnight stays; visiting clientele at sites throughout the county (including farms); standing/walking for long periods; handling of average‑weight objects up to 25 lbs.
