Position: Solar Installer / Lead

Job Overview

Have work diversity between outdoor solar installs and being Indoors in the office in front of a computer doing solar design, planning, permits – be responsible for managing and developing people in their teams, be part of a sustainable solution, and consider owning your own business.

Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record and reliable transportation is required.

Responsibilities
  • 2‑3 years of solar installation experience preferred, including roofing, electrical and other construction trades.
  • Positive attitude, highly motivated, goal‑driven with a proven track record.
  • Experience with electrical wiring (AC and DC systems).
  • Experience working on ladders, heights and roofs.
  • Must be able to carry 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Experience with many types of hand‑held and power tools.
  • Team player who listens, learns and actively communicates.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of installing solar PV systems.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience directing and mentoring technicians.
  • Solar experience required; electrician experience considered. Minimum 3+ years.
  • Self‑drive and initiative highly required.
  • Design, assemble, install or maintain solar photovoltaic systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics, including measuring, cutting, assembling, bolting structural framing and solar modules, and performing electrical work such as current checks and wiring.
  • Perform, delegate and supervise the solar department as described in the project management/Gantt chart.
  • Follow layout of solar array implementation according to code.
  • Supervise staff to order and pull solar inventory for projects.
  • Supervise and assemble mechanical/structural mounting racking, modules and electrical equipment.
  • Manage lead technicians in the field.
  • Supervise the installation of attic insulation and other energy‑efficiency measures before and after solar array installation in homes and businesses.
  • Pull inventory for specific projects.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions on new products, methodology and safety.
  • Perform and troubleshoot PV system service as required.
  • Support the insulation department as needed.
  • Learn building science and insulation techniques as conducted by Sustainergy Cooperative.
Qualifications
  • H.S. Diploma or two‑year degree in technology/industrial preferred (not required).
  • Self‑drive and initiative highly required.
