Role OverviewThe Project Estimator is a vital strategic role responsible for developing comprehensive Cap Ex estimates and initial financial modeling for large‑scale industrial projects.
Responsibilities- Formulate detailed and accurate cost estimates for projects.
- Partner with design engineers during the conceptual phase.
- Analyze project drawings to create material take‑offs and cost loadings.
- Prepare comprehensive cost breakdowns and evaluate pricing and procurement strategies.
- Evaluate current market rates and historical data to provide realistic, competitive cost projections.
- Maintain and update a proprietary database of historical costs, material pricing, and labor rates.
- Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to validate vendor quotes.
- Conduct formal cost‑risk analysis and propose contingencies to protect project capital integrity.
- Monitor ongoing project costs against initial estimates and recommend corrective adjustments.
- Prepare and present formal project cost proposals, explaining pricing assumptions, methodologies, and financial risks.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related technical field.
- 3–5 years of direct experience in Cap Ex or construction estimating, preferably in large‑scale petro‑chemical, technology infrastructure, or complex manufacturing projects.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of material processing equipment, manufacturing methodologies, and industrial engineering workflows.
- Deep knowledge of construction processes, labor rates, and cost‑estimation methodologies (bottom‑up, parametric, analog).
- Proven experience with cost‑risk analysis and cost variance analysis.
- Strategic communication skills to translate complex engineering data into clear financial narratives.
- Self‑starter who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and can manage multiple high‑priority estimates simultaneously.
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
The base salary range is $100,000–$150,000 annually. Additional benefits include long‑term incentives, stock options, medical, vision and dental coverage, and a 401(k) retirement plan.
