Overview
Under the general direction of the Dietitian Supervisor, performs professional dietetic work such as nutritional assessment, nutritional counseling, breastfeeding counseling, or the development and evaluation of nutritional care standards; performs related duties as required.
Responsibilities- Counsels all program participants including those who are high-risk regarding appropriate nutritional intake to encourage compliance with nutritional recommendations;
- Assesses, develops, implements, and evaluates nutritional care plans and provides for follow-up, including written reports;
- Collects body measurements and performs blood testing utilizing a point of care device;
- Designs and implements assessment and evaluation tools to measure nutrition behavior;
- Serves as the clinical lead to other team members working in a WIC clinic;
- Prepares self-education modules and plans; organizes and conducts nutritional education programs, events and/or classes for WIC participants, food service personnel, community agency staff, or other groups upon request;
- Revises information pamphlets/materials and keeps an inventory of supplies;
- Studies, interprets, and utilizes current research and literature relating to nutritional care;
- Completes reports and recommends changes to the program director;
- Maintains records on nutrition contracts, client care, or program eligibility;
- Serves as liaison between the program and assigned community service agencies and physicians;
- Makes referrals to various health and human services agencies and programs; documents referrals;
- Attends continuing education classes in order to maintain licensure;
- Performs the duties of Dietetic Technician as necessary;
- Serves as lactation consultant; counsels mothers on benefits and methods of breastfeeding;
- May consult with physicians and other health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patients;
- May supervise assigned staff;
- May communicate with potential and enrolled program participants who have limited English language skills.
- Possession of a valid State of Ohio Dietitian License or Limited Dietitian Permit with licensure within six (6) months of issuance.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Positions allocated to this classification may require conversational proficiency in a language or languages other than English.
