Position SummaryAs an Underwriter within Arch Alternative Markets, you will be responsible for the technical underwriting, account management and client management of our casualty group captive programs. We have been growing steadily 20% per year with no shortage of opportunities, and we exceeded $1 billion of GWP.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities- Technical Underwriting – Solicit and review new and renewal account information, identify hazards and exposures, assess financial risk, structure appropriate captive programs, underwrite, price and prepare proposals, and coordinate administrative duties.
- Account Management – Manage pre‑ and post‑bind activities including policy production, compliance, audits, legal agreements and TPA coordination. Drive renewal and retention, and conduct mid‑term account reviews.
- Client Management – Develop relationships with producers and insureds, discuss account issues, uncover customer needs, and create strategic plans to position and sell Arch at both levels.
- Administrative – Maintain underwriting and policy file documentation in accordance with Arch’s audit process and complete ad‑hoc projects as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of Workers Compensation, General Liability and Automobile coverage forms, endorsements and captive program design.
- Knowledge of loss‑sensitive, excess & surplus lines programs.
- Desirable but not required: familiarity with captive programs, including pricing, loss projecting, retention and reinsurance.
- Experience with exposure identification, analysis and cross‑functional accounting, claims, risk control and compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training.
- Optional: CPCU or similar designation.
- 3–5 years of underwriting experience in loss‑sensitive, excess & surplus or captive markets.
- Proficiency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Base salary range: $125,000 – $145,000 per year + 10% target bonus.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in this location, the base salary range is provided as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
