What We Need We are seeking energetic, passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role for the position of seasonal (unclassified) Lifeguard within the Division of Parks & Watercraft, headquartered at Hocking Hills State Park, assigned to Hocking County. The address is 19852 State Route 664, Logan, Ohio 43138.
OverviewPosition: seasonal (unclassified) Lifeguard.
Location:
DNR Hocking County, at Hocking Hills State Park. Hours may include weekends, evenings, and rotating shifts during the division's busiest season. Contract duration:
May 2026 to September 2026. Compensation: $20.58/hour. This position is not eligible for benefits.
- Rescue swimmers in distress (enter water to aid potential drowning victims; use rescue equipment such as rescue tube, rescue board, or canoe to tow/pull swimmer to safety); perform emergency first aid (e.g., CPR, control bleeding, cover victim).
- Guard designated swimming areas against drownings and related accidents; advise the public of applicable provisions of the Ohio Revised Code and ODNR Parks & Watercraft rules; request public compliance; attend training sessions.
- Complete incident report forms; inspect safety equipment; maintain swimming area (pick up litter, empty trash, check restrooms and vending machines, mow grass, paint surfaces); keep supervisor informed of maintenance needs.
- Pay rate: $20.58/hour.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard certificates (or equivalent such as YMCA Lifeguard, BSA Lifeguard, Ellis & Associates, etc.) and CPR certificate; if required to work longer than four months, submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. A positive test will disqualify employment per Ohio Revised Code Sections 3719.01 & 3719.41.
