Location: Paducah, KY
The Housing Authority of Paducah is seeking a skilled, dependable, and service-oriented Fleet & Equipment Maintenance Technician (Mechanic) to support the maintenance and operation of agency vehicles, equipment, and inventory systems.
This role is responsible for ensuring that fleet vehicles, small engines, and maintenance equipment are safe, functional, and ready to support daily operations
. The position also supports inventory control and parts tracking to promote efficiency, cost control, and operational readiness.

CompensationThis position offers a base hourly rate, starting at $20.00
, depending on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated skill level.
This is a part-time, seasonal position (up to 22 hours per week) and is not eligible for full-time benefits.
Employment StatusThis position is a part-time, seasonal appointment
, not to exceed nine (9) months and up to 22 hours per week. Employment is temporary in nature and does not guarantee continued or regular full-time employment.
Continued employment beyond this period may be considered based on operational needs, funding availability, and individual performance, in accordance with agency policies.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties represent the primary functions of the position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:
- Inspect, maintain, and perform minor repairs on fleet vehicles, small engines, and mechanical equipment (e.g., trucks, vans, mowers, tractors)
- Perform preventive maintenance including oil changes, tire rotation, filter replacement, and fluid checks
- Diagnose and address basic mechanical, electrical, and engine-related issues
- Maintain accurate service logs and repair records for vehicles and equipment
- Ensure vehicles and equipment meet safety and operational standards
- Maintain shop tools and equipment in safe and functional condition
- Assist with inventory control by tracking, organizing, stocking, and verifying parts, tools, and supplies
- Support ordering, receiving, and stocking of parts and materials in accordance with agency procedures
- Assist maintenance staff with locating equipment, tools, and parts as needed
- Clean, inspect, and perform minor repairs on appliances (e.g., stoves, refrigerators) as needed
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and storage environment
- Follow all agency safety policies, procedures, and operational guidelines
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in automotive, fleet, or equipment maintenance
- Experience performing preventive maintenance and basic mechanical repairs
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured under the Authority’s vehicle policy
- Ability to successfully complete background screening and drug/alcohol testing
- Three (3) or more years of experience with fleet vehicles or mixed equipment
- Experience with Ford and Chevrolet trucks, vans, and light- to medium-duty vehicles
- Familiarity with diesel engines and small engine repair (e.g., mowers, tractors, Kubota equipment)
- ASE certification(s) or equivalent training preferred
- Experience with parts inventory tracking or maintenance support systems
