The Children’s Library Aide is to help the Children’s Coordinator with organizing and shelving the collection, creating and maintaining displays, assisting with programs, and assisting with other library activities as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Shelves books and all other materials which have been returned.
- Reads shelves to keep materials in correct order.
- Keeps shelves clean.
- Puts property stamps on books.
- Searches for missing items.
- Helps patrons with use of equipment, such as microfilm and reader/printer.
- Assist Children’s Librarian with running programs.
- Prepares children programs.
- Assist in maintenance of exhibits, posters and displays.
- Cover other areas of library when needed, including weekend rotation and evening coverage when needed.
- May label books.
- Handle telephone calls and route messages.
- Perform routine library computer functions.
- Plans, prepares and delivers programming to children and families.
- Enforces library policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Work special events/programs.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of relative work experience.
- CPR and First Aid Certification, preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of alphabet.
- Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System.
- Skill in using small hand tools for minor repairs. Basic ability to operate copier, fax, microfilm/microfiche reader/printer, and video equipment.
- Ability to read, write and communicate fluently in English.
- Ability to provide courteous service to patrons and to interact well with all library employees.
- Ability to use listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to follow standard office environment safety requirements.
- Ability to observe regular office and electrical safety procedures.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crouching, feeling, fingering, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, and visual acuity.
