Behavior Interventionist

Provides expertise and guidance to elementary and middle schools staff and students in regards to conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments, writing Behavior Intervention Plans, and implementing and supervising behavioral interventions and strategies for students. The position would interact with school staff, administrative staff, students, mental health agencies, and community partners. Strong interpersonal skills and positive student engagement are required. Trained physical interactions may occur with students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Completion of Functional Behavioral Assessments designated by the Student Support Team
  • Write and implement Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Modeling and supervising the implementation of behavioral interventions and strategies for students with frequent behavior referrals
  • Consistent and up-to-date communication with key staff, parents, students, and mental health agencies
  • Develop an understanding of cultural differences in responses to behavior, serving as an effective bridge between school and home, providing both entities with appropriate resources to meet the behavior needs of our students
  • Keep confidentiality in regards to student and parent information
  • Working collaboratively with other school individuals (other behavior interventionists, deans, counselors, special education teachers, etc., across schools) to develop a team approach to addressing behavioral needs and substance abuse
  • Maintain data on implementation of behavioral interventions
  • Developing and executing trainings for school staff on behavioral modification language, strategies, and forms, as well as culturally appropriate practices
  • Identify needs and gaps within schools in regards to behavior modification language, strategies, and forms
  • Use PBIS to create a positive school climate and culture. Link students up with after-school activities
  • Participate in the weekly Watch Group meetings and follow up with at-risk students
  • Assist with supervision in a proactive manner in the hallways, bus ramp, and courtyard
  • Record all services on appropriate SS/HS forms
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of current behavior modification techniques and strategies (Applied Behavior Analysis, Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, behavior interventions, etc.)
  • Must have appropriate data collection skills
  • Must be capable of program planning, and have public speaking skills
  • Able to communicate effectively to people of all ages is essential
  • Must be creative and highly motivated, as well as flexible, and organized
  • Must have the ability to prepare written lesson plans and reports
  • Goal planning and time management skills are essential
  • Knowledge of agencies and resources in community is desired

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education & Experience:

    Bachelor's Degree in psychology or social work preferred
  • Familiarity with Navajo language and culture preferred
  • Computer Proficiency: MS Office Suite, Google Suite, Power School

The position is exposed to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses; occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions; exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities; exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment; function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.
