Nature of Work
Under limited supervision performs security work of routine difficulty in the supervision, care and welfare of inmates detained in the jail facility; performs related work as assigned.
This position is located in Page
Work HoursThis position requires you to work 12-hour shifts. This position may require on-call duty.
Responsibilities- Maintain the safety and physical security of the jail facility
- Respond to and manage emergency or crisis situations, using communication skills to resolve volatile situations
- Respond to and manage life-threatening, potential life-threatening and hazardous situations
- Manage housing units of up to 144 occupants
- Control, supervise and document the movement and activities of inmates
- Conduct inspections, searches (including pat-downs and strip searches) and security checks of inmate housing areas
- Administer first aid including exposure to blood and bio-hazardous materials
- Maintain detention records
- Perform routine receptionist and clerical duties
- Work with detention statistics and computer data
- Supervise the activities of visitors, support personnel and program volunteers
- Conduct inventories of detention supplies and commodities
- Distribute and collect all incoming and outgoing mail
- Assist in securing firearms and ammunition in the gun locker
- Conduct manual and automated criminal history checks
- Examine and interpret court orders and release documents to determine correct court, housing needs and releases
- Appear in court and/or hearings as a witness
- Assist with the jail facility's level of cleanliness per standards
- Must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien.
- Must be 18 years of age at the time of appointment to the position.
- Must reside within Coconino County upon appointment to the position.
- Must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D.
- Must obtain an Arizona driver’s license upon appointment and maintain it throughout employment.
- Must successfully pass a written examination, interview board and physical agility test.
- Must successfully complete a background check, polygraph examination, medical examination and drug test prior to employment.
- Must not have a felony conviction within the last ten years or a dishonorable discharge from the military.
- Must not have a misdemeanor conviction involving domestic violence within the previous five years.
- Must not have used marijuana within twelve months of hire or dangerous/narcotic drugs in the past five years for more than experimentation.
- Must successfully complete a minimum of 240 hours of correctional training within twelve months of employment.

- Maintain a neutral attitude toward all inmates regardless of the reason for their detention
- Respond to emergencies or stressful situations calmly, quickly and decisively
- Work rotating shifts
- Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public
- Follow written and verbal instructions
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
