Substitute Teacher Positions

Thank you for your interest in substituting with the ESC of the Western Reserve! We maintain a licensed substitute list for districts in Geauga County and districts in Lake County. We partner with Renhill Group to provide substitutes for our special education programs. Per state law, to be a substitute teacher, you must hold at least a bachelor's (4-year) degree; to be a substitute educational aide, you must hold a high school diploma.

Please complete the application below to apply for substitute positions with the ESC of the Western Reserve, or participating districts in Geauga and Lake County. After submitting the substitute application, you will be contacted via email to complete the additional required documents. It is your responsibility to complete and provide copies of the documents to the ESC.

Note:

After April 15th of each year, ALL applications received for substitute opportunities will be considered for the next school year.

Print and complete the following required documents:

Substitute Preference Checklist
Substitute Assignment Guidelines
Acknowledgment of Receipt of the Substitute Assignment Guidelines
Information Release Form
Fraud-Reporting Acknowledgment Form
Student Privacy Statement & Confidentiality Agreement (FERPA)

Provide a copy of the front of your driver's license to the Receptionist.

Complete both FBI and BCI Background Checks. Please be advised that our background check services are by APPOINTMENT ONLY, call x 1703.

Payments Accepted:
Cash (exact amount), check/money order, or credit card. BCI only $35, FBI only $40, BCI & FBI both $70. You must bring a VALID form of - Expired not be accepted. Driver's License, State I.D., Passport. Your social security number is required to process the background check.

Note:

If you are a classified applicant interested in open positions in a Lake County school district, or you do not see a district listed on our Preference Checklist that you are interested in, please contact that school district directly.

If you have not been a substitute for the ESC of the Western Reserve in the past 12 months, you are considered a new applicant.
