Position: Payroll Specialist / Human Resource Generalist

Payroll Specialist / Human Resource Generalist

The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for a broad range of human resource duties including payroll, benefit administration, retirement, recruitment, and training.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintains personnel records, computes and prepares payroll, posts compensated absences to update individual sick and vacation balances.
  • Verifies employment/earnings when requested.
  • Forwards workers compensation and insurance forms to the County Insurance/Benefits Coordinator.
  • Assists with recruitment initiatives, conducts new hire orientation presentation, and manages new hire paperwork.
  • Coordinates training initiatives with HR and Management teams.
  • Researches, interviews trainers, coordinates and schedules management, employee, and development training and special events.
  • Assists with compliance of all federal and state regulations and government reporting requirements (EEO, ADA, FMLA, ERISA, Department of Labor, OSHA).
  • Assists with employee benefit administration, self‑insured workers compensation, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

This position requires maintaining knowledge of public employee benefits, retirement, and self‑insured workers compensation; performing payroll and related responsibilities; new hire orientation; maintaining employee procedures, guidelines, and documents; overseeing records and employee databases; ensuring compliance with departmental, state, and federal rules and regulations.

Applicants should demonstrate a high degree of initiative and logic, exercise good judgment, exhibit sound decision‑making when faced with complex or unique situations, demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality and ethical standards, and consistently deliver general customer service in a professional fashion.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Minimum two years of related experience in this field.
Job Type and Compensation

Full Time. Pay:
Starting $20.32 per hour.
