Water Utility Quality Assurance Distribution Operator - Backflow Prevention

Overview

Water Utility Quality Assurance Distribution Operator – Backflow Prevention maintains backflow prevention compliance within the water distribution system. The operator is a main resource for all backflow prevention activities, including inspections, regulations, and consumer notifications.

• Conduct visual inspections of all backflow devices in the distribution system.
• Maintain a log of all devices using Cityworks software.
• Prepare initial and follow‑up notifications to consumers to maintain backflow prevention compliance.
• Keep tanks, booster stations, and office areas clean; remove trash and debris.
• Operate and check equipment, instruments, pumps, valves, and related apparatus under direct supervision.
• Find and correct operating problems; assist with flushing dead‑end and unidirectional hydrants to maintain acceptable chlorine residual and a flushing log.

• High School diploma or GED.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license with a safe driving record and drug screening.

• Familiarity with maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, valves, gauges, backflow prev enters and regulators.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, GPS collection, blueprints and maps.
• Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively with coworkers, public officials, the general public and regulatory agencies (OEPA).

Full Time
Pay:
Starting rate $20.40 – $27.00/hr. based on experience
Additional Premium:
Class I License $1.50/hr. – Class II License $1.75/hr.
