The Water Utility QA Distribution Operator – Backflow Prevention is responsible for a broad range of duties for maintaining backflow prevention compliance within the water distribution system.
Essential Job Functions- Will work to become a main resource in all areas related to Backflow Prevention, including inspection requirements and regulations.
- Conducts visual inspection of all backflow devices in the distribution system. Maintains a log of all devices utilizing Cityworks software.
- Prepares initial and follow up notifications to consumers to maintain backflow prevention compliance in the distribution system.
- Maintains a clean working environment at all tanks, booster stations, and office areas. Work includes removal of trash, sweeping and removal of any debris on the premises.
- Under direct supervision, operates and checks equipment, instruments, pumps, valves and related apparatus and facilities. Finds and corrects operating problems.
- May assist with flushing dead‑end and unidirectional hydrants or blow offs to maintain acceptable chlorine residual and maintain a flushing log.
Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED. A valid Ohio Driver's license with a safe driving record and a drug screening are required.
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesApplicants familiar with maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, valves, gauges, backflow prev enters and regulators are preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, GPS collection, blueprints and maps is preferred. Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to have effective working relationships with fellow coworkers, public officials, the general public and regulatory agencies (OEPA) is preferred. This position will include physical labor, including working outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
This position may require emergency call‑out response at all hours of the day and night including weekends and holidays.
Job Type: Full Time
PayStarting rate: $20.40 - $27.00/hr. based on experience
Additional Premium- Class I License: $1.50/hr.
