Chemical Operator

The Chemical Operator executes written batch processes and recipes using fixed and mobile manufacturing equipment in a clean, state-of-the-art chemical facility. This role supports small-lot production, first-time scale-ups, and large commercial batches for the pharmaceutical industry, ensuring accurate documentation, adherence to GMP standards, and safe operation of kilns, mixers, and related machinery on 12-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Execute written batch processes and recipes accurately using both fixed and mobile manufacturing processing equipment.
  • Support small lot production, first-time scale-ups, and large commercial-scale batches in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Set up kilns and mixers prior to production, ensuring all equipment is configured correctly and safely.
  • Tear down kilns and mixers after production runs, including proper disassembly and cleaning of components.
  • Perform sanitation of kilns, mixers, and associated equipment in accordance with GMP and SOP requirements.
  • Document all production activities clearly and completely, including batch records and any deviations.
  • Use basic math skills when working from batch tickets to calculate quantities, measurements, and adjustments.
  • Work from batch tickets and SOPs to carry out mixing, compounding, blending, and batch-making operations.
  • Operate chemical mixing and compounding equipment, including blenders and other production machinery.
  • Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for chemical manufacturing, mixing, sanitation, and safety.
  • Assist with mechanical assembly and disassembly of machinery and equipment as needed for production and maintenance.
  • Respond to mechanical breakdowns by safely assisting in troubleshooting, disassembly, and reassembly under guidance.
  • Safely operate a forklift as required to move materials, components, and finished product within the facility.
  • Adhere to GMP practices and maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization in all work areas.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators and full protective suits, when handling materials or working in designated areas.
  • Lift materials up to 50 pounds and move throughout the facility, including walking up and down stairs, during 12-hour shifts.
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership to ensure production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are met.
  • Report any equipment issues, safety concerns, or process deviations promptly and participate in corrective actions.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of previous batch mixing or chemical operator experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 2 years of experience working from batch tickets, including compounding and chemical mixing.
  • Proficiency in basic math for calculating quantities, measurements, and adjustments during batch production.
  • Hands-on experience with chemical manufacturing processes such as mixing, compounding, blending, and batch making.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written batch processes, recipes, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Experience with mechanical assembly and disassembly of machinery and equipment used in production.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically active work, including walking up and down stairs, over 12-hour shifts.
  • Comfort working 12-hour shifts in a production environment.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and full protective suits (such as Tyvek suits) as required by safety and GMP protocols.
  • Experience working in chemical manufacturing or chemical mixing operations.
  • Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) environments and requirements.
  • Ability to document production activities accurately, including batch records and process notes.
  • Basic understanding of chemical processes relevant to mixing and compounding.
  • Ability to operate forklifts safely, where required, in a manufacturing setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Sanitation experience in a chemical or GMP environment, including cleaning and sanitizing production equipment.
  • Experience working in pharmaceutical-related manufacturing or chemical mixer roles.
  • Exposure to state-of-the-art chemical manufacturing facilities and modern production equipment.
  • Comfort with rotating schedules and working day or night 12-hour shifts.
  • Attention to detail and strong adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a production team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills when dealing with mechanical breakdowns or process issues.
