Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university, Master’s degree preferred
  • Valid Florida Educator’s Certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
  • Highly qualified as per NCLB guidelines
  • Satisfactory criminal background check
  • ESOL Endorsement/Certification preferred
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and procedure manuals; apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Knowledge of current Human Resources leave system and Skyward inventory system (if applicable) or willingness to learn new technology practices.
  • Knowledge of general science, earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, or physiology according to subject and level assigned.
  • Ability to utilize technology in facilitating instruction.
  • Willingness to work with others and respond constructively to feedback; work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to utilize in-class assessments to shape lessons and drive instruction.
  • Ability to enforce 100% engagement in a classroom of scholars at all times and utilize behavior‑management strategies to set and maintain clear expectations.
  • Proven record of achievement as evidenced by student work, learning, and data.
  • Ability to utilize student curriculum and Common Core Standards for grade levels taught and deliver instruction at a high level.

Job Goal

To develop in each pupil an awareness of the role of science in economic and social progress; to motivate each pupil to acquire knowledge of scientific facts and principles and skills in scientific methods of problem solving; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in scientific fields.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Serve as a role model for students, dressing and grooming professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the honored teaching profession.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest, and abilities of students.
  • Establish high standards and expectations for all students to accept responsibility for behavior.
  • Supervise students and consistently administer rules regarding student behavior.
  • Assist students in learning to accept responsibility, demonstrate respect for people and property, and self‑discipline.
  • Teach skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in general science, earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, physiology or science problems to secondary pupils, utilizing the course of study adopted by the state Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Plan a science program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organize laboratory activities for optimum learning.
  • Demonstrate scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments, and standard or teacher‑prepared charts, sketches, and instructional aids.
  • Keep accurate records of student attendance and behavior, including any tardiness, and submit to the administration in a timely fashion.
  • Monitor the pacing of instruction and budget class time efficiently by providing clear directions, outlining expectations, and effectively concluding instructional experiences.
  • Use effective presentation skills when employing direct instruction, including appropriate vocabulary, examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.
  • Establish a professional rapport with students that earns their respect.
  • Provide individual and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
  • Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports.
