Qualifications- Master’s Degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Eligible for certification as a Guidance Counselor by the State of Florida.
- Satisfactory criminal background check.
- Knowledge of child development and characteristics of children in the assigned age group.
- Knowledge of current educational research, especially in the field of guidance and counseling.
- Basic understanding of the use of current technology in the field.
- Knowledge of varied learning styles and skill in using varied methods to counsel students with different learning styles.
- Knowledge and skill in crisis prevention, intervention, and arbitration techniques.
- Knowledge and skill in career counseling.
- Knowledge of student referral procedures for special assistance.
- Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents, and others.
- Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness.
- Ability to effectively assess levels of student ability and achievement, administer a variety of standardized tests, analyze and explain test results, and prescribe actions for improvement.
- Ability to work effectively with students, peers, administrators, community agencies, parents, and others.
Principal
Job GoalTo lead students toward maturation and fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth.
SupervisesOffice Clerk as provided and assigned.
Performance Responsibilities- Participate on Child Study Teams.
- Provide crisis intervention counseling.
- Provide small group and individual counseling and establish a system of student referrals from school staff, parents, and self-referrals.
- Serve as a consultant to teachers, administrators, and parents.
- Provide and/or develop resources to teachers for the Student Development Program.
- Coordinate the Peer Mediation/Conflict Resolution Program.
- Serve as a liaison with parents, community agencies, and other departments of the school system.
- Interpret standardized tests and interest inventories.
- Cooperatively work with the school administration to review the Student Development Program.
- Be responsible for the development of the school plan for Student Development.
- Identify and support students in need of assistance concerning grades, attendance, and personal issues.
- Work in partnership with parents in planning for students’ individual needs.
- Provide screenings for students being considered for special programs.
- Provide in-service for teachers and staff as needs arise.
- Be responsible for the maintenance of student records.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the principal.
Light work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
Position is seven and a half hours per day. Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
EvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
