Position SummaryThe Quality Assurance (QA) Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, and verifying that all shipbuilding and repair work meets company standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements. This role supports quality control processes across welding, fitting, fabrication, coatings, and final assembly to ensure compliance with applicable codes and contracts, including government and maritime standards.
Key Responsibilities- SHIPYARD EXPERIENCE PREFERRED.
- Perform in-process and final inspections on shipbuilding activities including welding, fitting, piping, and coatings.
- Verify compliance with drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
- Inspect welds for quality, accuracy, and adherence to AWS/D1.1, ABS, or NAVSEA standards (as applicable).
- Conduct and document visual inspections, dimensional checks, and testing procedures.
- Monitor and ensure proper material traceability and documentation control.
- Review and maintain inspection reports, test records, and QA documentation.
- Identify non-conformances and assist with corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Work closely with production teams to ensure quality standards are met without impacting schedules.
- Support audits (internal, customer, and regulatory) and maintain compliance with QMS requirements.
- Ensure adherence to safety procedures and shipyard protocols, including confined space and PPE requirements.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI): Quality control inspections and tasks are completed on time, to specifications, and within scope of the project 100% of the time; completes all required company training 100% of the time; follows all company policies and procedures 100% of the time.
Essential Functions- Works across the organization to develop and promote a culture of Quality by conducting and validating QA audits across projects.
- Develop and revise QA compliance policies, procedures, and templates to mitigate risk.
- Lead company efforts to resolve QA discrepancies identified by the customer or outside agencies.
- Advise, coach and train operations, QA team, and supply base, as needed.
- Ensure ISO certification and compliance for Marinette Marine.
- Participate in strategic and business planning and in setting business goals and objectives.
- Oversees development of Training techniques that provide consistency while utilizing technology and cutting edge approaches to optimize performance and compliance.
