Position: Thrasher Horne Center Campus Safety Officer-Sergeant (FT-OPC)

The Thrasher-Horne Center Campus Safety Officer – Sergeant serves as the site supervisor for safety and security operations at the Thrasher-Horne Center. This position is responsible for the protection, safeguarding, and security of the Center’s assets, personnel, customers, and visitors while ensuring a safe environment during events and daily operations. The position also serves in a secondary role as a Campus Safety Officer on the Orange Park Campus and supports emergency preparedness, security operations, and public safety initiatives.

Duties

and Responsibilities Thrasher-Horne Center Security Operations
  • Serve as the site supervisor for safety and security operations at the Thrasher-Horne Center
  • Protect and safeguard Center assets, personnel, customers, visitors, and facilities
  • Oversee emergency preparedness and safety procedures for the Center
  • Coordinate and manage event security screening operations
  • Supervise security staffing and special event security details
  • Monitor and coordinate parking lot operations during events and activities
Campus Safety and Emergency Response
  • Serve in a secondary role as a Campus Safety Officer on the Orange Park Campus
  • Respond to safety, security, and emergency situations as required
  • Assist with enforcement of College policies, procedures, and safety regulations
  • Support emergency response planning and incident management activities
  • Maintain awareness of potential safety and security concerns and take appropriate action
Administration and Leadership
  • Coordinate security operations with College administrators, event personnel, and external agencies as needed
  • Prepare reports and maintain records related to incidents, events, and security activities
  • Assist with training and supervision of security personnel assigned to events and facilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of College and Center operations
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience in security, law enforcement, public safety, military service, or a related field preferred
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Ability to successfully complete employment/reference verification screening and background check
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of security operations, emergency preparedness, and public safety practices
  • Knowledge of event security procedures and crowd management techniques
  • Ability to assess situations and make sound decisions during emergencies
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and supervisory skills
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work effectively with students, employees, visitors, law enforcement, and community partners
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in sensitive situations
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as required
Ergonomic Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events and patrol activities
  • Ability to patrol indoor and outdoor facilities in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and supplies associated with security operations
