Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer
The 3D Printing Intern position at Jaycon Systems LLC supports the engineering team in producing high-quality prototypes and functional parts using Form Labs SLA 3D printers. This role involves hands‑on work preparing, printing, and post‑processing 3D components, as well as assisting in design and testing activities for product development. The intern will contribute to mechanical design projects, help maintain 3D printing equipment, and gain experience in the full cycle of rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing within a product design and manufacturing environment.
Duties & Responsibilities- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Form Labs SLA 3D printers to ensure optimal performance.
- Prepare and slice 3D models using Pre Form software, ensuring proper orientation and support structures.
- Post‑process printed parts, including washing, curing, sanding, and surface finishing.
- Collaborate with engineers on designing and prototyping enclosures, fixtures, and other mechanical components.
- Review CAD models for printability and recommend design improvements.
- Keep detailed logs of print jobs and manage the organization of the 3D printing lab.
- Inspect printed parts for dimensional accuracy and overall quality.
- Assist in research and testing of materials and printing techniques to improve print performance.
- Understanding of SLA 3D printing processes and materials.
- Experience operating Form Labs printers and using Pre Form software.
- Proficiency in CAD modeling (Solid Works, Fusion 360, or similar).
- Knowledge of mechanical design principles and tolerances.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control.
- Analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Hands‑on experience with Form Labs SLA printers (required).
- Experience designing complex mechanical parts or assemblies (preferred).
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing post‑processing techniques.
- Availability to work on‑site in Palm Bay, FL.
- Work in a hands‑on prototyping lab with mechanical and electrical engineers.
- Exposure to additive manufacturing processes and materials testing.
- Fast‑paced, project‑oriented environment with opportunities to apply engineering and design skills.
- Collaboration across design, prototyping, and manufacturing teams.
