Assist with the development of new consumer products from concept to prototyping to mass manufacturing. Support both technical drawing and physical prototype creation for testing. Apply user experience principles to ensure products are user-friendly, manufacturable, and assembly processes are efficient.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists the Lead ME with conceptual design and 3D CAD modeling to design products that meet the objective of the project proposal.
  • Works independently to create designs and 3D CAD that meet the objective of the project proposal.
  • Maintains and upgrades the performance of the FDM 3D printers
  • Performs design validation testing of prototypes and off-tool samples, proposing design modifications to guarantee manufacturing efficiency and compliance with technical specifications.
  • Specify tolerances, materials, manufacturing processes, heat treatment, coatings, and bill of materials.
  • Writes documentation defining product performance requirements and manufacturing/ assembly outline to ensure a high level of product quality.
  • Perform field/drop testing, translating observations from field research into proposals.
  • Writes documentation specifying the results of tests and experiments
  • Research competing & related products and technologies.
  • Work with Prototyping personnel to enhance manufacturing capabilities
Necessary Skills & Knowledge
  • Currently enrolled in or graduated from a Mechanical Engineering program or similar at an accredited university.
  • Experience with consumer products and user experience.
  • Knowledge of Solidworks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, or similar.
  • 3D Design and Drafting experience
  • Must be available for 20 hours per week or more
  • Must have experience using simple power tools such as drills, belt sanders, and Dremels
  • Hands-on experience working with 3D printers
Requirements
  • Ability to visualize product creation and “think” in 3D
  • Ability to complete tasks with little guidance and possessing problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently.
  • Perform quality checks on customer orders.

    Ability to clearly communicate with clients and team members.

Little physical activity in an office environment. Occasionally requires walking to the assembly area and using tools such as drills and belt sanders. May require exposure to chemicals due to prototyping materials such as epoxy and synthetic clay.
