Mechanical Engineer, Systems Engineer
HEPCO is seeking a Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineer for a permanent-placement opportunity supporting aerospace and defense programs in Palm Bay, Florida. This role is responsible for the design, development, integration, and qualification of complex mechanical hardware, including precision mechanisms and electromechanical systems, in support of mission-critical products.
The engineer will lead hardware development activities across the full product lifecycle, including requirements definition, concept generation, material selection, trade studies, optimization, detailed design, technical documentation, assembly, integration, and testing.
- Lead the mechanical design and development of complex hardware assemblies and subsystems.
- Perform requirements analysis, concept development, trade studies, and design optimization for mechanical solutions.
- Create and review technical data packages, engineering drawings, models, and related design documentation.
- Support prototype fabrication, assembly, integration, qualification, and verification testing.
- Develop test plans, procedures, and reports for component and subsystem validation.
- Participate in peer reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, and engineering change activities.
- Provide technical guidance to designers, technicians, and manufacturing support personnel.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems, manufacturing, quality, and program management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline and six years of relevant experience; graduate degree and four years of relevant experience; or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience in mechanical design and hardware development within aerospace, defense, space, or another high-reliability environment.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as Creo or similar platforms.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Experience with the assembly, integration, and testing of mechanical or electromechanical systems.
- Ability to support technical design reviews and product development milestones.
- Active Top Secret or TS/SCI clearance, or an active clearance within the last two years.
- Ability to meet customer access requirements, including a favorable polygraph where applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in precision mechanisms, mechatronics, actuators, gear trains, electronics packaging, or electro-optical hardware.
- Experience with DFM, DFMA, additive manufacturing, materials selection, and environmental or structural testing.
- Prior experience supporting space, intelligence, or other advanced defense programs.

Compensation Range: $88,500-$164,500 a year (Depending on experience and qualifications)
