Assistant Controller

MHW Search has exclusively partnered with a fast-growing Commercial Real Estate Private Equity firm in Florida that has roughly $150mm in assets in Industrial. We are seeking a Controller to join the team.

The Controller / Accounting Manager will play a critical role in building and managing the company’s internal accounting infrastructure. This individual will oversee property-level accounting, financial reporting, and tax coordination while supporting the leadership team in maintaining financial visibility across the portfolio. This position will initially focus on property accounting, financial oversight, and vendor coordination, while also providing the foundation for building a more robust internal accounting platform as the firm continues to grow.

The role offers significant long-term growth potential, with the opportunity to evolve into a Controller and potentially CFO-level position as the firm expands its investment platform.

• Manage property-level accounting for the firm’s real estate portfolio, including financial tracking across multiple assets.
• Review and approve invoices, operating expenses, and property-related financial activity.
• Coordinate financial reporting across internally managed and third-party managed assets.
• Maintain oversight of accounting workflows across the company’s portfolio.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Track operating performance across assets and provide leadership with financial insights.
• Assist with investor reporting and portfolio performance analysis.
• Support financial modeling and portfolio‑level reporting as needed.

• Work closely with external tax providers to coordinate annual tax filings and property-level reporting.
• Assist with preparation and review of K‑1 documentation and related investor reporting.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and financial documentation requirements.
• Serve as primary liaison with third‑party accountants, tax providers, and property.
• Oversee external accounting services currently supporting the portfolio.
• Identify opportunities to bring additional accounting functions in-house as the company grows.

• Develop scalable accounting processes to support the firm’s continued acquisition activity.
• Assist leadership with financial oversight as new assets are acquired and integrated.
• Support leadership in building a scalable financial infrastructure for future portfolio growth.

• Experience in real estate accounting, property accounting, or fund accounting
• Familiarity with commercial real estate portfolios or real estate investment firms
• Experience working with multiple properties and asset‑level financial reporting
• Understanding of real estate tax structures, investor reporting, and K‑1 preparation
