We are looking for a field technician to perform installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of transport and data services.
The RoleField Technician III may be required to perform a variety of functions based on geographic needs. Works independently, may act as a team leader. Expert knowledge of business field and strong business acumen. Applies advanced principles in the installation, acceptance, and maintenance of Transport equipment, Signaling (such as SS7), Private Line and Data Services, CSU/DSU, and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE). Responsible for outside plant network including metro and long‑haul fibers.
Performs moderately complex assignments requiring analysis, innovation, and judgment.
- Troubleshoot network equipment, remove or replace defective equipment, isolate problems, and restore service. Identify potential problem areas to ensure network integrity.
- Perform installation, change, decommission, and testing of transport, Ethernet, SONET, and IP layers for all available bandwidths. Install and test customer equipment (CPE) and deliver end‑user services.
- Use industry standard software and hardware to locate, mark, and protect underground facilities accurately.
- AC Power (on limited basis).
- DC power installs including tertiary and BDCBB.
- Large Netbuild management (PM duties), vendor management, and PO creation.
- Oversee asset management, replenishment of on‑site/truck materials, and coordinate shipping and receiving of company and customer materials.
- Perform level 1 preventive scheduled maintenance and inspections on critical infrastructure including HVAC, high‑voltage electrical systems, and DC power plants.
5+ years technician experience in a telecommunications/data center environment with strong technical experience and knowledge of standard telecommunications practices.
- Master knowledge of transmission (DSO, POTS, DDS, FT1, DS1, E1, DS3, Sonet/SDH), switching (SS7, trunking, signaling), TCP/IP (Fast/Gigabit Ethernet, networking protocols, router installation and configuration).
- Strong technical and mechanical background with experience working on the latest generation transport gear and critical infrastructure, including HVAC, high voltage electrical systems, and DC power plants.
- Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right‑of‑way, and as‑builts is required.
- Must have an active government security clearance and reside in the Palm Bay, FL area.
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions (indoor, outdoor, buried cable inspections, construction sites, all weather).
- Commitment to working safely at all times.
- Possession of a valid state vehicle operator’s license with satisfactory driving record.
- Commitment to follow company policies regarding motor vehicle usage.
- Availability for on‑call 24x7 rotational support, including stand‑by, call‑out, dispatch, and overtime.
- Ability to perform underground fiber optic cable locating without error.
- Proven experience installing, decommissioning, and troubleshooting next‑generation and legacy network equipment and circuits.
- Responsible for proactively monitoring Lumen systems to execute preventative and demand maintenance across the network, critical infrastructure, and materials management.
Anticipated base salary range: $64,668 - $86,190 (South Florida, FL).
